LATAM A320 veers off runway in Cascavel after rainy landing

LATAM Airlines Brasil’s Airbus A320 operating flight LA3858 from São Paulo/Guarulhos ran off the runway while landing at Cascavel Airport in western Paraná on Monday morning, coming to rest on wet ground beside the paved surface. The aircraft was carrying 151 people, and no injuries were reported.

The incident unfolded around 09:45 local time in heavy rain, with some reports also citing thunderstorms and poor runway conditions during the approach. Emergency crews responded at the airport, which was temporarily closed while authorities assessed the runway and began recovery work on the aircraft.

LATAM cancelled the return service, LA3859, and arranged assistance for affected passengers. Brazilian aviation authorities are expected to investigate the sequence of events and the role of weather and runway conditions in the excursion.
