AXIS enters helicopter simulation market with full-motion and fixed-base devices

AXIS Flight Simulation is moving into helicopter training with two new devices aimed at rotary-wing operators: the high-fidelity AX-DH full-motion simulator and a fixed-base flight training device. The Austrian manufacturer plans to target Airbus Helicopters and Leonardo types first, with both products designed for uses ranging from emergency medical services and search and rescue to offshore operations and night-vision goggle training.

The two platforms share a common architecture and can accept interchangeable cockpits, giving AXIS a flexible base for expanding its helicopter portfolio over time. The motion device combines a high-resolution visual system with six-degree-of-freedom electric motion, while the fixed-base model is intended to meet EASA and FAA approval pathways for broader procedural and familiarisation training.

AXIS expects the first helicopter simulator or training device to be available in about 20 months. The company is entering a segment where civil and specialist operators are looking for a wider range of training capacity, from immersive high-end simulation to lower-cost devices that can support routine training needs.
