Olympic Air flight OA94 returned to Rhodes “Diagoras” airport shortly after departure for Karpathos on Sunday after the captain reported a possible malfunction in one engine’s oil system. The ATR 42-600, registered SX-OAZ, landed safely with 33 passengers and three crew on board, while airport emergency procedures were activated as a precaution.
Fire crews were deployed to the runway area and no injuries were reported. AEGEAN, which operates Olympic Air, arranged a replacement aircraft from Athens so passengers could continue their journey to Karpathos as soon as possible. The aircraft was scheduled for technical inspection to establish the cause of the warning and determine whether it could resume service.
