Lufthansa 787-9 lands in Baku after technical fault on Delhi flight

A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 operating flight LH760 from Frankfurt to Delhi made an unscheduled landing in Baku on 25 August after a technical malfunction forced the crew to divert. The aircraft, registered D-ABPH, landed safely at Heydar Aliyev International Airport at 23:26 local time, and no injuries were reported.

The diversion followed problems involving satellite communication and navigation data, with tracking anomalies reported over Turkmenistan. Position data briefly showed the aircraft in the wrong location, including over the Caspian Sea, before the crew decided not to continue the long-haul sector until systems had been checked on the ground.

The aircraft remained in Baku for about a day before continuing to Delhi in the early hours of 27 August. Lufthansa said there was no danger to passengers or crew. The incident disrupted a long-haul intercontinental service and highlighted how navigation and communications irregularities can quickly affect widebody operations.
