TAP appoints José Eduardo Moreira as new chief operating officer

TAP Air Portugal has appointed José Eduardo Moreira as its new chief operating officer, replacing Mário Chaves after his resignation. The internal leadership change takes effect on 1 September and keeps the airline’s operational portfolio in the hands of a long-serving manager with deep technical experience.

Moreira has worked at TAP since 1998 and most recently served as general manager for maintenance and engineering. His move to the COO role comes through a board co-optation decision, pointing to a succession handled from within the airline rather than through an external recruitment process.

The appointment maintains continuity in a key operational function at a time when airlines are under pressure to protect reliability and technical performance. Moreira’s background in maintenance, engineering and airworthiness gives him direct familiarity with the areas most closely linked to day-to-day operational stability.
