Two Airlink E190s skim Cape Town stadium roof in pre-match flyover

Two Airlink Embraer E190s flew a tightly choreographed pre-match display over DHL Stadium in Cape Town before the South Africa-New Zealand rugby Test, part of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry spectacle. The aircraft, registered ZS-YDE and ZS-YAE, passed low over the venue in a manoeuvre that drew attention for its apparent clearance above the roof and its close visual effect on video.

Flight-tracking coverage put the visible clearance at roughly 12.5 to 14 metres, although the exact gap could not be reconstructed precisely from public data and camera angles. The jets reportedly flew at about 150 knots, with one passing through pyrotechnic smoke during the sequence. Airlink described the flyover as carefully planned and rehearsed, with support and approval from South African aviation authorities and air traffic services. DHL Stadium has a capacity of about 55,000 and rises to around 50 metres at its tallest point, which helped explain the reaction to the low pass.
