Fiji Airways to end Canberra–Nadi flights after three years

Fiji Airways will suspend its Canberra–Nadi service after operating the route for just over three years, with the last scheduled flight now due on 31 January 2027. The twice-weekly link, flown with Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, is being withdrawn as the carrier redeploys capacity to stronger-performing markets amid ongoing global uncertainty and higher fuel costs.

The change removes Canberra’s direct international connection to Fiji, leaving passengers to connect via daily Sydney–Nadi services. Fiji Airways is treating the move as a temporary network adjustment rather than a permanent reduction in capacity, and affected customers are being contacted with alternative travel options or refunds on request.

The Canberra route launched in July 2023 and quickly became a niche international link for the Australian capital. Its suspension comes as airlines continue to trim or shift flying in response to weaker demand on some leisure markets and pressure on operating economics. Canberra Airport has also been notified of the decision as the airline reshapes its short-haul international network.
