Germany’s interior minister Alexander Dobrindt warned in Flensburg that hybrid attacks are likely to rise further in both frequency and sophistication, as Baltic Sea states and EU representatives met to discuss drone defence and wider security threats. The talks in northern Germany centred on faster coordination across the region, including a proposed international rapid-response task force for information sharing and joint action.
Dobrindt linked the growing threat to air and sea routes, cyberspace and critical infrastructure, citing sabotage, disinformation and risks to undersea cables among the scenarios under review. The Flensburg meeting followed heightened concern in Germany and the Baltic region after an explosive-laden drone was found near Leipzig/Halle Airport earlier this month.
The proposed task force is intended to improve cross-border reaction in a crisis and support a more unified response to hybrid incidents. German and regional officials have increasingly focused on anti-drone measures after the Leipzig/Halle case, which intensified debate over how to protect transport hubs and other sensitive sites from unconventional attacks.
