Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, which serves Caracas, will resume commercial passenger flights on 1 September after closing to regular traffic following the twin earthquakes of 24 June. Domestic and international operations will restart through temporary terminals while reconstruction continues at the main facilities, restoring Venezuela’s primary international gateway in a provisional form.
Cargo services were brought back on 5 August, ahead of the passenger reopening. The airport authority, IAIM, has urged travellers to contact their airlines directly to confirm rebookings and terminal arrangements. The phased return is likely to shape route restoration and scheduling as carriers rebuild service around the temporary setup.
The reopening comes with passenger handling still constrained by ongoing repairs, leaving the airport in a gradual recovery phase rather than a full return to normal operations. Secondary coverage has indicated that individual airline operations may differ at the start of the resumption, with some carriers expected to restore services earlier than others.
