Venezuela sets 1 September restart for Caracas airport after earthquake damage

Venezuela’s Instituto Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía will resume commercial passenger flights at Simón Bolívar International Airport on 1 September, with operations starting through temporary terminals while reconstruction continues after the June earthquakes. The reopening will restore domestic and international services at the main gateway serving Caracas, following a two-month disruption to regular passenger traffic.

Cargo flights restarted on 5 August, ahead of the passenger relaunch. The initial phase is expected to run at a reduced level of activity, with reports pointing to about 30% to 35% of previous capacity and roughly eight daily flights, although the full ramp-up remains unclear.

Passengers have been told to check directly with their airlines for rebooking details and terminal assignments. The airport has not published a firm timeline for the completion of the main rebuilding programme, and airline-by-airline restart plans remain subject to adjustment.
