A small Tecnam P2002JF Sierra crashed into Attersee in Upper Austria near Steinbach am Attersee, and authorities later located the wreck in about 160 metres of water. The two-seat training aircraft had departed from Salzburg before the accident, and police do not expect any survivors after the loss of the flight instructor and student on board.
Recovery work is being prepared, but the depth of the wreck is making the operation technically difficult. The aircraft was identified after the search effort shifted from a missing-plane operation to a confirmed crash investigation, with the underwater location established on Wednesday.
Multiple German media reports identified the occupants as a 25-year-old instructor and a 20-year-old student. The flight appeared to be a training sortie, adding another layer of complexity for investigators examining the route, the final phase of flight and the circumstances that led to the impact on the lake.
