RECARO launches R4 premium class recliner for Boeing 787 cabins

RECARO Aircraft Seating has introduced the R4, a next-generation Premium Class seat positioned as the successor to its PL3530 platform. Unveiled in Schwaebisch Hall, Germany, the recliner is certified for the Boeing 787 and is already in delivery, with entry into service expected later in 2026.

The R4 targets airline cabin refresh programmes where premium-economy or premium-class products need to balance comfort, density and operational flexibility. RECARO has built in a 16-inch monitor, a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support, side ambient lighting, privacy wings with reading light, multiple power options and PRM access via a side console. A redesigned extra-wide tray table with a personal electronic device holder is also part of the package.

Additional certification work is under way for other aircraft types. Airline customers can tailor the seat with different colour, trim and finish options, while the company positions the design as a replacement for the PL3530, which entered the market in 2015.
