Aeroflot has halted construction of a new aircraft engine maintenance plant planned to service CFM56 engines before expanding to Russian PD-8 and PD-14 types. The project, developed through AeroTrustTechnics, had already absorbed about 2.7 billion rubles and was intended to cover roughly 27,000 square metres with capacity for up to 70 overhauls a year.
The facility formed part of a broader industrial push to build domestic maintenance capability around both Western and Russian powerplants. Roughly 1.6 billion rubles had gone into construction and more than 1 billion rubles into equipment before work stopped. The project did not receive board approval afterwards, turning the case into a governance issue as well as an industrial one.
The report also points to possible personnel consequences for Aeroflot chief Sergei Alexandrovsky, although that has not been confirmed publicly. No official explanation for the halt has been issued.
