SpaceX plans to build a new Starship-focused spaceport in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, in a project the company and state officials frame as a roughly $100 billion investment. Dubbed Starbase Louisiana, the site would become SpaceX’s largest launch base and is intended to support thousands of Starship flights each year from the Gulf Coast near Pecan Island.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with first launches targeted for 2029. The proposed complex would add a third major Starship hub to SpaceX’s US footprint and expand the company’s capacity for high-frequency reusable rocket operations. Full buildout is expected to include five launch complexes with two pads each, more than a dozen launch towers, propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping access, vehicle-processing facilities and employee housing.
Elon Musk has previously described an ambition for more than 30 Starship launches per day at full scale, while SpaceX says the Louisiana site was selected after a seven-year search for a suitable location. The project would strengthen the company’s position in the commercial launch market and support its longer-term plans for Earth orbit, lunar missions and eventual Mars operations.
