United Airlines is expanding its Europe network with the Airbus A321XLR, adding five new transatlantic routes for summer 2027 from Newark and Washington Dulles. The carrier will deploy the long-range narrowbody on services to Luxembourg, Marseille, Ibiza and Valencia from Newark, and Toulouse from Washington Dulles, while the aircraft enters international service on 1 December with flights to Amsterdam and Dublin.
The new routes are part of what United describes as its largest international expansion in company history, with the programme focused on thinner markets that are harder to serve profitably with larger widebodies. Luxembourg begins on 2 April, followed by Toulouse on 26 April, Ibiza on 31 May, Valencia on 2 June and Marseille on 4 June. United ordered the A321XLR in 2019 and plans to use it first on domestic flying before the aircraft crosses the Atlantic.
The aircraft will be configured with 32 premium seats, including 20 Polaris suites and 12 Premium Plus seats, alongside United’s Economy Plus cabin. The expansion also broadens the airline’s reach across Europe and Asia, with the A321XLR giving it more flexibility on seasonal and secondary city pairs.
