Schiphol will take the Buitenveldertbaan, Runway 09/27, out of service on weekdays from 31 August to 8 September for annual routine maintenance. The runway will remain open over the weekend of 5–6 September, while traffic normally using the strip is shifted to other runways at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The work covers inspections and repairs to asphalt and markings, checks of electrical systems and cabling, drainage cleaning, grass cutting, and cleaning or replacement of runway lights. Schiphol expects the Kaagbaan to handle more departures to the northeast during the maintenance window, while the Oostbaan may be used as an alternative for arriving aircraft.
Temporary runway changes can alter noise exposure for communities beneath the adjusted flight paths, especially where movements are redistributed to neighbouring runways. The maintenance forms part of Schiphol’s regular runway upkeep programme, which is scheduled around traffic levels to limit disruption while preserving operational safety and reliability.
