Norway’s air traffic controllers have reached an agreement with employers’ association Spekter, ending a strike that disrupted civil aviation over the weekend. The deal between the Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers Association and Spekter clears the way for traffic to resume normally at Avinor-operated airports, restoring operations after severe disruption at key hubs including Oslo and Bergen.
The strike began on Friday after mediation failed and quickly affected scheduled services across the country. Avinor, which operates most of Norway’s civil airports, had warned of major delays and cancellations, with Oslo Airport forced to suspend scheduled traffic for several hours on Sunday. The disruption also raised concern over wider knock-on effects across the national network.
The dispute had centred on working conditions and pay, and the prospect of further escalation had already been flagged for later in the week. The settlement removes an immediate risk to airlines and passengers, and brings an end to one of the most significant labour-related interruptions in Norwegian aviation this summer.
