Pakistan International Airlines is evaluating Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways as it looks to expand its international network, with no deal finalised yet. The discussions centre on widebody capacity that could give PIA relatively quick access to long-haul aircraft for overseas services while the flag carrier pursues growth.
Norse Atlantic is working through placement options for aircraft returning from IndiGo’s wet-lease programme, which is due to end on 1 November 2026. Up to five 787-9s are understood to be available for ACMI or other leasing arrangements, and the carrier expects to decide on their deployment within the next few weeks.
The aircraft involved sit within Norse’s young 787-9 fleet and form part of a wider reallocation process as the airline adapts to changing commercial demand. Pakistan is one of the markets reported to be under consideration, alongside Bangladesh, but the terms of any potential PIA arrangement remain unclear, including whether it would involve a dry lease or a wet-lease structure.
