The poll was carried out shortly before publication and reflects nationwide opinion on the early August discovery at Leipzig/Halle, where a drone fitted with explosives and a triggering mechanism was found near the airport’s cargo area. The incident has already prompted debate over how Germany should respond to drone threats around airports and other sensitive sites.
Four in five respondents saw shortcomings in the country’s ability to defend against such attacks, with half describing Germany’s preparedness as rather poor and 30% as very poor. The findings add a public-opinion dimension to a case that has become a wider security issue for aviation and critical infrastructure, without changing the underlying facts of the investigation.
