Oslo Airport will suspend air traffic for five hours on Sunday morning as a strike by Norwegian air traffic controllers disrupts operations at Norway’s busiest hub. Avinor has set the closure window from 06:30 to 11:30 local time, with major delays and cancellations expected across the country and Norwegian Air Shuttle already cancelling 72 flights during the period.
The stoppage follows failed mediation between the Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers’ Association and employers’ organisation Spekter, leaving 12 controllers on strike from Friday. The union has indicated more controllers could join from Tuesday if the dispute continues. Avinor warned passengers to follow airline updates and travel to airports as normal unless instructed otherwise.
The disruption comes after a day of widespread knock-on effects on Saturday and is expected to affect both domestic and international schedules. Around 95,000 passengers were due to travel through Oslo Airport on Sunday, increasing the pressure on carriers serving the Gardermoen hub and on connecting services across Norway.
