Kenya Airways plans to have its full fleet back in service by January 2027 as it works through aircraft groundings linked to global engine and spare-parts shortages. Acting chief executive George Kamal outlined the timetable at a Nairobi briefing, alongside wider recovery plans for the carrier’s network and capacity.
The airline has been operating with a significant portion of its fleet out of service, including multiple Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Maintenance delays, scarce components and engine repair backlogs have lengthened turnaround times, while high fuel costs have added to the pressure on earnings and operations.
Restoring the grounded aircraft would lift available capacity and support Kenya Airways’ efforts to strengthen its competitive position. Management is also pursuing fleet growth beyond current levels over the next few years, including additional leased aircraft, as part of a broader turnaround strategy.
