A chartered Cessna 441 crashed in western Alaska on Thursday, killing all eight people on board. The aircraft had departed Anchorage for the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site area and came down west of Cape Newenham Airport around 12:15 p.m. local time. The flight was operated by Anchorage-based Security Aviation, and the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation with FAA support.
Authorities said the aircraft carried two pilots and six passengers. Search-and-rescue teams later confirmed there were no survivors. The crash occurred near a remote radar installation used to monitor air traffic over Alaska and along its borders, a location that serves military and authorised charter operations. Names of the victims have not yet been released.
The cause of the accident remains unknown. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft’s flight path, weather, terrain and any operational factors linked to the approach into the Cape Newenham area.
