Zürich Airport is operating with reduced capacity after a partial failure in its apron control system disrupted departure planning and apron coordination on Wednesday. The disruption has forced airlines to warn passengers of delays and schedule changes, while leisure and general aviation traffic has been largely suspended so scheduled commercial services can be prioritised.
The airport’s manual fallback procedure is handling operations until the fault is resolved, but it requires more staff input and cannot match normal throughput. That has already led to individual cancellations and delays, with eight aircraft landing after the airport’s usual cutoff time on Tuesday evening.
The cause of the failure remained unclear and was still under investigation. Further delays were expected as the day progressed because the reduced operating capacity continued to affect traffic handling at Switzerland’s busiest airport.
