Younger Lufthansa pilots are more satisfied with their jobs than older colleagues, according to a fresh union-backed survey in Germany. The findings come as Vereinigung Cockpit continues to warn about weaker career prospects, tougher working conditions and the long-term challenge of keeping the pilot profession attractive across Lufthansa’s operation.
The survey picture points to a mixed mood inside the cockpit ranks. Two thirds of employees are generally satisfied with their current job situation, but 47% believe their professional situation has worsened, and only 24% would recommend the pilot profession today. The age split is the most striking new element, with younger pilots markedly more positive than older staff.
The results feed into a wider Lufthansa Group labour debate that has already centred on recruitment, retention and progression. Union representatives have highlighted concerns that long waiting times for command positions and changing retirement conditions are shaping career expectations, especially for younger pilots entering the system. The survey adds another data point to that discussion at a time when cockpit staffing remains a live issue across the group.
