Speaking during a summer visit at the Wartburg near Eisenach, he stressed that conclusions must come after proof, while the federal prosecutor continues investigating the incident as a serious attack on Germany’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
The drone was discovered on the evening of 4 August in the airport’s security area between Ukrainian cargo aircraft. The case has intensified debate over hybrid threats and drone defence at German airports, but Dobrindt has stopped short of confirming any Russian role. The incident has also added urgency to calls for faster detection and counter-drone capabilities, as authorities and industry assess how to better protect cargo hubs and critical airport operations.
