Germany’s aircraft accident investigation office is examining a Lufthansa Airbus A380 after the aircraft touched down too early at Munich Airport and damaged runway threshold lighting on the southern runway. Flight LH459 from San Francisco landed safely on Monday with 351 passengers and crew on board, and no injuries were reported.
The incident has added pressure on operations at Munich, where a separate runway event involving a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 on the same runway is also under review. Lufthansa is supporting the investigation, while the damaged lights were repaired quickly enough for the runway to return to service within about an hour.
The aircraft, identified in reports as an A380-800, remained on the ground in Munich pending inspection. The cause of the early touchdown has not been determined, and no official finding links the A380 event to the earlier Boeing incident.
