A private Bell 206 helicopter crashed on the Greek island of Sifnos on Monday, killing all three people on board. The aircraft went down in the Tholos area near the island’s heliport during a flight linked to the Athens area, and a fire broke out at the scene.
Greek fire brigade officials and local authorities recovered the bodies of the pilot and two passengers from the wreckage. The helicopter had departed from Markopoulo, east of Athens, bound for Sifnos, and the crash occurred at about 6:17 p.m. local time.
The cause was not immediately known. Early reports identified the victims only as two men and one woman, while later local coverage indicated they may have been a British newlywed couple and a Greek pilot, though that identification was not officially confirmed in English-language reporting.
