Vietnam Airlines flight VN34 returned safely to Munich Airport after a technical problem shortly after departure for Hanoi, involving a Boeing 787 on Saturday. Vietnam’s aviation authority later said warnings indicating a possible tail strike and low tyre pressure were triggered after take-off, while the aircraft was unable to taxi under its own power after landing and remained stranded on the north runway.
All 271 passengers and 16 crew members were reported safe. Vietnam Airlines arranged onward travel and support for affected passengers, while Vietnamese and German authorities began coordinating over the incident. The event disrupted operations at Munich, including the north runway, as investigators examined what happened during the departure and return.
The airline first described the issue as a technical problem before the later update provided more detail on the warnings generated by the aircraft’s systems. The final cause has not yet been released, and the case remains under investigation.
