Vietnam Airlines has confirmed that a Boeing 787-9 operating flight VN34 from Munich to Hanoi returned safely to Munich Airport after a runway overrun during take-off on Saturday. The aircraft, registered VN-A867, continued climbing after leaving runway 26L before burning fuel over the Munich area and making a precautionary landing on runway 26R, with passengers and crew reported safe.
The incident disrupted operations at Munich’s north runway and triggered an inspection of the aircraft. Aviation reports cited tailstrike and tyre damage, with preliminary indications that runway lights may also have been affected. The return was handled as a technical precaution while the aircraft’s condition was assessed.
Vietnam Airlines is coordinating with the relevant authorities and examining the aircraft. The exact cause has not been confirmed, and investigators are expected to review take-off performance, aircraft handling and any possible mechanical factors.
