Omni Táxi Aéreo to equip AW139 fleet with Honeywell radar

Omni Táxi Aéreo is set to equip its fleet of Leonardo AW139 helicopters with Honeywell’s IntuVue RDR-7000 weather radar, in a fleetwide upgrade aimed at improving weather awareness for offshore missions. The Brazilian operator’s decision covers all 33 AW139s and replaces the need for conventional radar handling with a more automated system designed to give crews a clearer, real-time picture of conditions ahead.

The RDR-7000 is intended to help pilots detect hazardous weather earlier, including turbulence, hail, lightning and wind shear, while reducing workload in demanding offshore environments. Honeywell’s system also supports over-the-air software updates, allowing new functions to be enabled without taking aircraft out of service. The upgrade aligns with Omni’s focus on safety and operational reliability across a fleet that routinely transports passengers and equipment to offshore energy platforms, where weather can change quickly and diversion options are limited.

The IntuVue RDR-7000 uses 3D volumetric scanning and is positioned as an advanced replacement for legacy radar systems. Honeywell has described the radar as capable of providing a wider view of weather ahead than conventional airborne radar, giving crews more time to adjust routing and operating decisions during flight.
