Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport plans to install dedicated ablution stations in Terminal D restrooms for Muslim travellers, with one unit in the men’s and one in the women’s facilities. The privately funded project, filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation at the end of July, is expected to be completed by year-end and is intended to support wudu practices without using ordinary sinks.
The work comes after reporting highlighted the practical problems that can arise when passengers wash their feet in standard washbasins, including wet floors and counter damage. DFW already has ablution facilities near its interfaith chapel, following a 2019 Terminal D chapel relocation, so the new installations would expand existing provision rather than introduce it for the first time.
The upgrade reflects a broader focus among major airports on adapting terminal facilities to different passenger needs while balancing hygiene, plumbing and safety requirements. Similar amenities have also been reported at other large US airports, including Chicago O’Hare.
