Lufthansa Cargo’s Boeing 777F registered D-ALFA remains grounded at Shanghai Pudong Airport after a rejected takeoff linked to a technical issue. The freighter is still awaiting repair and release, with weather conditions in the Shanghai area delaying work on site. D-ALFA is Lufthansa Cargo’s oldest 777F, leaving the airline without one of its long-haul freight aircraft on an important Asia-Europe route.
The aircraft aborted takeoff for technical reasons and was later inspected, but it has not yet returned to service. Reporting linked the event to a possible engine problem, although the precise failure mode has not been confirmed. A typhoon in the Shanghai region also disrupted operations at PVG and added to the delay for the grounded freighter.
The incident comes at a busy time for cargo operators serving China and Europe, where any extended outage on a large widebody freighter can tighten capacity. Lufthansa Cargo has not given a timeline for the aircraft’s return to service.
