Avolon Holdings has agreed a sale-and-leaseback transaction with Akasa Air covering up to seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft, expanding the lessor’s relationship with the Indian carrier. The narrowbody jets will support Akasa’s fleet growth and network expansion in India, with the 737-8200 positioned as the highest-capacity version of the 737-8 Max.
The deal is Avolon’s third transaction with Akasa Air, underscoring continued leasing support for the airline as it adds capacity in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. The aircraft are designed to deliver lower fuel burn and reduced emissions than previous-generation types, alongside improved operating economics.
Neither company disclosed financial terms, delivery timing or the routes and airports that will be affected. Akasa Air, which has grown rapidly since launch, continues to build out its domestic and regional network with leased aircraft forming a central part of its fleet strategy.
