Electra and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed a life-of-program production agreement for the 600-kW TG600 turbogenerator, with Electra placing an initial order for 250 units to power its nine-seater EL9 ultra-STOL aircraft. The deal transitions the TG600 from development, initiated in 2023, to production, securing the hybrid propulsion core that combines Safran’s in-service Arrano engine with two EASA-certified GENeUS generators. This agreement directly supports Electra’s FAA Part 23 certification efforts following the closure of the G-1 Issue Paper on 10 July 2026, enabling the EL9 to operate from runways as short as 150 feet. First flight is targeted for late 2027 to early 2028, with entry to service expected in 2030.
