China Airlines debuts Boeing 787-9 on Japan routes 1 February 2027

China Airlines will deploy its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on 1 February 2027, launching three-class service between Taipei and Fukuoka (CI110/111) and Osaka/Kansai (CI172/173), replacing aging Airbus A330-300s. The carrier has opened reservations for these flights, with Tokyo deployment planned subsequently. The 787-9 features a J30W28Y230 configuration across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, delivering a 25% fuel burn reduction over the A330-300 and enhanced cargo capacity of 52.5 metric tons maximum structural payload. China Airlines holds a firm order for 24 Dreamliners—18 787-9s and six 787-10s—with deliveries scheduled through 2028, marking the type’s inaugural entry into the Taiwanese flag carrier’s fleet.
