Finland officially joined NATO’s Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet on 7 July 2026, becoming the ninth European nation in the Airbus A330 MRTT program. This accession grants the Finnish Air Force immediate, scaled access to strategic air-to-air refueling for its F-35 fleet, long-range personnel and cargo transport, and aeromedical evacuation without sovereign wide-body infrastructure capital expenditure. Finland pools financial resources with eight partners to buy annual flying hours from the NATO-owned fleet managed by NSPA.
