Safran and MSI-Defence Systems partner on counter-drone systems

Safran Electronics & Defense and UK-based MSI-Defence Systems have agreed to develop and market counter-drone systems, combining Safran’s optronic sights with MSI’s SEAHAWK naval and TERRAHAWK land weapon systems. The Franco-British partnership has already secured an initial contract with an unnamed European NATO navy: Safran will provide VIGEO sights for 30 mm SEAHAWK DS30M mounts on mine countermeasure vessels, with deliveries planned for 2027.

The agreement covers systems for NATO forces and other international customers. The companies did not disclose the navy, vessel names, order quantity or contract value.

VIGEO provides day-and-night target acquisition, laser ranging and fire-control functions. Safran’s other sighting products include PASEO and VIGY 4, while its Skyjacker system is designed to counter drones through jamming or remote takeover. The partnership combines these capabilities with MSI’s naval and land mounts; the initial order is for the naval configuration.
