Granite wins $52 million Tucson airport contract

Granite Construction has secured an approximately $52 million construction manager at risk contract from the Tucson Airport Authority for airfield work at Tucson International Airport. The CMAR2 project will modify taxiways and connectors to meet current commercial aviation safety standards and relocate and upgrade Federal Aviation Administration navigational aids. It is the final project in the authority’s multi-year Airfield Safety Enhancement Program, with completion anticipated in 2029.

Pre-construction activities began in September 2026. Granite’s Swan Facility is expected to supply more than 80,000 tons of FAA-specification aggregate and about 50,000 tons of FAA-specification asphalt for the work.

The authority describes the wider safety programme as an initiative worth more than $400 million to modernise the airport’s airfield layout and meet current FAA standards. Tucson International serves commercial, military and general aviation. No detailed construction schedule or specific taxiways and navigation aids for modification have been identified.
