Prestwick in talks to add Nanjing to China cargo network

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is discussing a new cargo route to Nanjing Lukou International Airport, potentially starting in 2027, with the Jiangsu provincial government backing the proposal. The link would add another direct connection between the Scottish airport and China. Commercial and operational discussions are continuing; no airline, launch date or flight frequency has been confirmed.

Prestwick chief executive Jules Matteoni and regional director Colin Dai met Jiangsu Vice Governor Ma Shiguang and local officials in Nanjing to discuss the proposal. Further details on a possible operator and schedule are expected in the coming months.

The airport already has more than 20 weekly scheduled services to China, with direct links to Ürümqi, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shanghai. A Nanjing service would extend that network to Jiangsu, a major manufacturing province, and provide another airfreight link for businesses in the region and the UK. The airport has not disclosed projected cargo volumes or quantified the route’s potential economic impact.
