China Airlines raises Taiwan-departure fuel surcharges from 8 November

China Airlines will increase passenger fuel surcharges on international itineraries departing Taiwan from 8 November, raising the short-haul rate from US$37.50 to US$40 per segment and the long-haul rate from US$97.50 to US$104. The revised charges follow a rise in aviation fuel prices reflected in CPC Corp., Taiwan’s monthly reference price, and apply to tickets for travel departing Taiwan under the Civil Aviation Administration’s surcharge mechanism.

The reference price for November rose to US$183.09 per barrel, from US$177.89 in October. The CAA’s short-haul category covers Asia, excluding India and the Middle East; long-haul routes include India, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Africa, Oceania and Antarctica.

China Airlines reported that fuel accounted for 33% of its passenger-aircraft operating expenses in the first half of 2026. With the approved surcharge, the carrier will absorb 59.49% of the additional fuel cost on short-haul services and 77.29% on long-haul services. The higher per-segment charges apply to affected international journeys originating in Taiwan.
