The Dutch Ministry of Defence is replacing the Fokker F27 used for practical aircraft-maintenance training at Eindhoven Air Base with five Pilatus PC-7s. One PC-7 has arrived from Woensdrecht Air Base, with the other four expected around mid-2027. The aircraft will give vocational students studying aircraft technology access to more relevant equipment and allow several teams to work on aircraft at the same time.
Students have used the 1962 F27 at Eindhoven since 2006. Its deteriorating condition and ageing technology have reduced its suitability for training technicians who will work on more modern aircraft. The PC-7s are nearing the end of their operational service with the Dutch military but remain suitable for hands-on maintenance instruction.
Once all five are at Eindhoven, the facility will be able to provide practical experience to multiple student teams concurrently. The F27 is to be repainted in Defence colours and displayed near the air base’s main entrance. No specific transfer dates have been given for the remaining PC-7s.
