American Airlines resumed service to Haiti on 1 November with daily nonstop flights between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien, restoring the carrier’s presence in the country after a suspension in November 2024. The Boeing 737 service is American’s 100th destination in its Caribbean and Latin America network and offers connections to more than 90 US destinations through Miami. It serves northern Haiti, not the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The inaugural flight was operated by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew led by Captain Oliver Jean. The route restores a direct link between South Florida and northern Haiti, including for the Haitian community in the Miami area.
American, JetBlue and Spirit suspended Haiti flights in November 2024 after aircraft were hit by gunfire around Port-au-Prince. US restrictions on operations in the capital remain in place; Cap-Haïtien is outside the restricted area. American’s return is therefore to Cap-Haïtien rather than to its former service at Port-au-Prince.
