American Airlines launched daily nonstop service between Miami and Cap-Haïtien on 1 November, restoring its presence in Haiti and making the northern Haitian city the 100th destination in its Latin America and Caribbean network. The route is operated with Boeing 737 aircraft and connects Cap-Haïtien to more than 90 destinations in the United States through the carrier’s Miami hub.
The inaugural flight was operated by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew led by Captain Oliver Jean. American began serving Haiti in 1971 and is returning to Cap-Haïtien after more than six years. It is the first major US network carrier to resume flights to the country.
The new service comes as American prepares its largest-ever winter schedule from Miami, with additional flights on several routes in the Caribbean and to Rio de Janeiro. The airline is also planning changes to Concourse D and expanded premium lounge facilities at the airport.
