Austrian Airlines recorded adjusted operating profit (Adjusted EBIT) of €48 million for the first nine months of 2026, down 37% from a year earlier. The Vienna-based carrier improved its third-quarter result, with higher revenue and profit than in the same period of 2025, but the summer performance did not offset the decline across January to September. Higher kerosene and base costs are weighing on its finances and planning.
The airline carried 4.5 million passengers in the third quarter, a 3% increase. It operated 99.2% of its planned flights and improved departure punctuality by 2.8 percentage points and arrival punctuality by 2.5 points. Capacity shifted towards European leisure destinations, including Nice, Mallorca and Barcelona, after the war in Iran began.
Austrian plans to cut capacity by 5% in its winter schedule. CEO Annette Mann has linked the airline’s cost pressures to the competitiveness of its Austrian base, while discussions with the government are relevant to long-term planning and renewal of the long-haul fleet. The available results information does not break down how much of the nine-month profit decline came separately from fuel and other base costs.
