Eurowings carries more passengers but remains loss-making over nine months

Eurowings carried more than 18 million passengers on 129,000 flights in the first nine months of 2026, with its load factor reaching 88% in the third quarter. However, the Lufthansa Group’s point-to-point airlines segment, which combines Eurowings and SunExpress, recorded an adjusted operating loss of €38 million for the nine-month period, despite a €214 million profit in the third quarter. Higher fuel costs, taxes and fees weighed on the result.

Eurowings reduced third-quarter capacity by 3.5% year on year, while unit revenue rose 10%, according to Lufthansa. Stronger demand for European premium products and ancillary sales supported revenue, but operating costs also increased. The segment’s reported financial figures should not be attributed to Eurowings alone.

For the 2026/27 winter schedule, Eurowings plans to base two additional aircraft in Berlin and add services to Bologna, Rome, Nice, Kuusamo and Lisbon. Its winter programme from the German capital will cover 38 destinations.

From 1 December, the airline plans to introduce its Premium BIZ Seat on all Dubai flights and selected services to London Heathrow, Mallorca and Málaga. The new layout in the first two rows of Airbus A320neo aircraft provides eight seats in a 2-2 configuration, replacing the standard six-abreast arrangement.
