Atlantic Airways has placed a firm order with Airbus for two additional A320neo aircraft as the national airline of the Faroe Islands moves towards an all-A320neo fleet. The agreement will expand its next-generation fleet and is intended to deliver operational synergies, simplify maintenance and support continued renewal of the carrier’s aircraft.
Atlantic Airways currently operates four A320 Family aircraft: two A320ceos and two A320neos. The new aircraft will support the replacement of the older-generation jets, although Airbus has not disclosed delivery dates or specified when the A320ceos will leave the fleet.
Board chairman Niels Mortensen described an exclusively A320neo fleet as the airline’s ambition for the near future and called the order a significant step towards that objective. Airbus executive vice-president for commercial-aircraft sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry linked the additional aircraft to Atlantic Airways’ role in maintaining regional connectivity for Faroese communities.
The aircraft are expected to be delivered early in the next decade, Aerotime reported. The publication also reported that the order brings Atlantic Airways’ A320neo backlog to four aircraft and forms part of a long-term investment plan of up to DKK 2 billion. Airbus has not disclosed the purchase price, engine selection or delivery schedule.
