Swiss A320 diverted to Hamburg after passenger medical emergency

Swiss flight LX1255 from Stockholm to Zurich was diverted to Hamburg on Tuesday morning after a passenger suffered a medical emergency. The Airbus A320, carrying 156 passengers, declared an in-flight emergency and landed shortly before 07:00 local time. After refuelling, the aircraft was expected to continue to Zurich, with the airline forecasting an arrival delay of about 90 minutes against the scheduled 08:35 arrival.

The aircraft turned towards Hamburg near Hanover at an altitude of approximately 11,600 metres after the cockpit crew transmitted a distress signal to facilitate a prompt landing. The affected passenger was handed over to medical services after the aircraft reached the airport.

Swiss spokeswoman Silvia Exer-Kuhn confirmed the medical reason for the diversion and indicated that passenger safety remained the airline’s highest priority. The airline did not disclose the passenger’s condition. Swiss planned to resume the Stockholm–Zurich service after the aircraft had been refuelled in Hamburg, although a later confirmed arrival time in Zurich was not available.
