Rolls-Royce Secures Order for 70 Trent 7000 Engines from Avolon

Rolls-Royce has secured an order from aircraft lessor Avolon for 70 Trent 7000 engines to power 35 Airbus A330-900 aircraft. The deal follows Avolon’s firm agreement to acquire the widebody aircraft from Airbus and expands the lessor’s existing portfolio of A330neo and Trent 7000 aircraft-engine combinations.

Avolon’s Airbus transaction covers 35 A330-900s and 75 A320neo Family aircraft. Airbus’s latest order takes the lessor’s total A330-900 commitments to 114 aircraft. No delivery schedule, order value or eventual airline customers for the leased aircraft were disclosed.

The Trent 7000 is the exclusive engine for the A330neo, making the powerplant selection integral to Avolon’s acquisition rather than a choice between competing engines. Rolls-Royce says the A330neo and Trent 7000 combination delivers 14% better fuel burn per seat than the previous generation while reducing emissions.

The engine has accumulated more than five million flying hours and is certified to operate with a 50% sustainable aviation fuel blend. Compatibility with blends of up to 100% SAF has also been demonstrated for future operations. Rolls-Royce described the order as supporting Avolon’s fleet-renewal and growth plans over the coming decade.
