PPG to Invest $70 Million in Huntsville Aerospace Transparencies Expansion

PPG will invest $70 million to expand its aerospace transparencies operation in Huntsville, Alabama, supporting higher production of aircraft cockpit and passenger windows. The project includes leasing and fitting out a 112,000-square-foot facility for production-support functions, freeing space at the existing plant for additional manufacturing capacity and future equipment.

The investment forms part of a series of multiyear projects aimed at supporting growth in PPG’s aerospace transparencies business. Moving support activities from the current site is expected to improve operational efficiency and help meet rising demand from commercial, regional, general aviation and military customers.

PPG has operated the Huntsville facility for more than 55 years. Its aerospace transparencies operation produces aircraft windows and related products, including dimmable windows, shades, landing-light lenses and protective coatings.

The company has not provided a completion date, employment forecast or a breakdown of the investment between the facility build-out and equipment. François Buehlmann, PPG’s general manager for global transparencies, Aerospace, described the work as part of the company’s longer-term effort to expand capacity and support customers worldwide.
