Lufthansa Cargo expands Asian links and shifts Mumbai freighters to Navi Mumbai

Lufthansa Cargo has moved its dedicated Mumbai freighter operation to Navi Mumbai International Airport and will expand its Asia-Pacific network under its 2026/27 winter schedule. The first Boeing 777F arrived at Navi Mumbai on 12 October, while the schedule beginning 25 October will offer 88 freighter routes to 40 destinations, including up to 46 weekly rotations to 17 Asia-Pacific points.

The relocation from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport follows infrastructure modernisation at the Mumbai gateway aimed at increasing capacity and operational efficiency. Lufthansa Cargo will continue using the older airport for belly cargo carried on Lufthansa Group passenger flights. Navi Mumbai is about 30 kilometres east of Mumbai and is intended to maintain links between the region’s industrial and manufacturing centres and international markets.

Singapore will be added to an existing Frankfurt-Taipei freighter rotation, creating an additional intra-Asian route with main-deck capacity. The Frankfurt-Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai-Los Angeles service will continue twice weekly, while Frankfurt flights to Taipei and Chengdu will each operate three times weekly. The Almaty-Frankfurt cargo link will also return.

The move follows relocations by other freighter operators, including Cathay Cargo, Silk Way West and Hong Kong Air Cargo, as carriers adjust to infrastructure and terminal-capacity constraints during Mumbai’s airport transition.
